Give these brussels sprouts a try instead of the traditional green bean casserole at Thanksgiving this year, just don't be surprised if you want to make them throughout the year after trying them! I won't tell anyone if you make them outside of Thanksgiving time, so enjoy them and let me know what you variations you come up with!
I always find it fascinating to see what other families typically serve for their Thanksgiving meals because as classic as many Thanksgiving dishes may seem, there are always so many different variations. A particular common and under appreciated side dish is the green bean casserole. I can’t say whether it’s the “casserole” name or the unappealing image of green beans that pop into my head that automatically turns me off, but that was never served at my Thanksgiving dinner. In fact, I can’t recall even really having any sort of variation of the dish.
I decided to create a different type of seasonal greens dish for the special feast that I can guarantee everyone would love to try! Thankfully I never experienced the disgusting brussels sprouts era, but rather thrived living through the beautiful brussels sprouts glow-up! Whether you are frying or baking these delicious greens, all that matters is how you flavor them to taste absolutely delicious. I believe in creating delicious, simple ingredients, and easy Thanksgiving side dishes because with the number of other dishes and preparation that needs to occur simultaneously, time is incredibly valuable. Therefore, I present Maple Glazed Brussels Sprouts to jazz up your Thanksgiving feast!
Here’s the 411 for those not familiar with the stars of this recipe:
- Maple Syrup: This is a great liquid sweetener to use in replacement of processed sugar. There are many other types of sweeteners you can use instead such as Agave or Stevia.
- Pan: I used a sheet pan (13in x 18in) that was able to fit all the vegetables.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 4
INGREDIENTS
- 2 lbs Brussels Sprouts
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 3 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Maple Syrup
- Salt and Black Pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven to 425 degree F and prepare baking pan with a silicone baking mat, aluminum foil, or oil to prevent vegetables from sticking to pan.
- Wash, chop in half, and place brussels sprouts in a large mixing bowl.
- In a small bowl, mix together oil and vinegar.
- Pour half of the oil and vinegar mixture to evenly coat brussels sprouts.
- Transfer brussels sprouts to baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Turn oven to broil and place baking pan directly under the top of the oven. Leave oven door slightly open and carefully watch (about 1-3 minutes). Remove brussels sprouts once crispy (be careful not to burn).
- Transfer brussels sprouts back to bowl and evenly coat remaining oil and vinegar mixture along with maple syrup, salt, and pepper.
I hope you appreciate the simplicity of preparation and complexity of taste of these delicious Maple Glazed Brussels sprouts. Although this may be a great Thanksgiving dish, don’t be afraid to ENJOY these year-round!
